The Mystic Ring

In partnership with Live Music Now Scotland, the Resol String Quartet perform The Mystic Ring by Carolyn Sparey-Fox Following on from their open workshop held at Lauriston Castle, Just Festival is delighted to present this performance of The Mysic Ring, by Carolyn Sparey-Fox and performed by the Resol Quartet. Carolyn Sparey-Fox is a violist, composer, artist and author whose Baha’i faith inspires much of her work. Her first string quartet, The Mystic Ring, was premiered in 2001 by the Fitzwilliam Quartet. It is a tribute to another Baha’I, the great English potter, Bernard Leach, who was probably one of the most significant and influential pioneers of craftsmanship during the twentieth century. Each of the five movements in The Mystic Ring reflects an aspect of his life and work, beginning with a portrait of Leach and ending with a musical interpretation of the potter’s craft in action.Friends joined through their love of chamber music, the Resol String Quartet formed in the Autumn of 2018 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, brought together by their shared vision to make classical music more inclusive and accessible both in the present and for the future.

In a constant pursuit for excellence, these young artists share their joy of music making and act as ambassadors for chamber music. As such, the RSQ feel just as at home in education settings and village halls as they do on the concert platform. Free, unticketed.
